About Stranraer

Discover the beauty of west Galloway

Many people know Stranraer as a busy ferry port with the shortest crossing to Ireland. But the town and surrounding area offer so much for visitors to see and do.

Right opposite The Swan Inn is Agnew Park, a perfect place for families to enjoy the many facilities including crazy golf, a miniature railway, a boating pond, the Pavilion and play areas. The park itself overlooks the stunning Loch Ryan basin and the area benefits from the warmer temperatures brought with Gulf Stream winds which is why there are so many palm trees to be seen here.

The Swan Inn is also ideally situated for the town centre shops and ferry terminal, both just a five-minute walk away.

In Stranraer, there is also a museum charting the history of Wigtownshire, whilst close by, there are a number of places to visit including the Mull of Galloway, Scotland's most southerly point, Logan Botanic Gardens and some of the most spectacular coastline anywhere in Scotland.

New ferry port to open November 2011

A new ferry port is to open just north of Cairnryan in November 2011, replacing the Stena ferry port in Stranraer itself. For ferry passengers seeking to stay overnight prior to catching a ferry to Ireland, The Swan Inn still offers the ideal location as guests can enjoy the facilities of Stranraer. The new port will be just 15 minutes drive away.
